TRAINING IN NEUROSURGERY

 

Chairmen: B. Shehu (Sokoto, Nigeria), M. Jiddane (Rabat, Morocco)

 

The first lecture in this session commenced at 8.45am and lasted till 9.28am. The lecture was delivered by J. Ausman (USA). He talked on Basic principles of successful neurosurgery and microsurgery. This detailed lecture emphasize on issues such as planning for surgery, ethics of practice of neurosurgery, and the need to rely on basic and available instruments and not sophisticated technology.

 

The second lecture commenced at 9.30am and ended at 9.45am. The lecturer was M. Qureshi (Nairobi Kenya). He talked on developing neurosurgical training programs in resource challenged regions in Africa. He gave the historical background of efforts at developing neurosurgery training program for the East and central Africa region. He listed the major constraints as lack of funds and manpower development.
